ways to & aftermath

in 1995 i started working seriously on computer aided concept projects. not long before, i still thought of computers as an evil invention — in 1992 i encausted an ibm-workstation and nearly got admitted to bedlam. in 1995 mercedes benz corp. also released his new class-e model to all the world. at the same time german sex-tourists returning from asia brought the severly agressive subtype-e HIV virus with them back to germany.

for the forthcoming millenium i planned to give all the world another possibility to check out a brand new icon for a new epoch. as i tend to use my works in various environments, i needed a format that was able to be used installed wide-spread in highclass museum spaces for champagne-drinking medi-tation, as well as a subliminal matter in bars or pubs. in 1999 i was lucky enough to find a printing company in southern germany that offered me printing less than 100.000 pieces. i had no garage up my sleeve.

showing the works on the trans-industriell artists congress 1999 in hamburg, the was a certain upheaval and artists charged me for making commercial product-art. i did’nt reckon with such difficulties. a finnish participant speaking gibberish but yet incorrupt english told us “every good art has to be a bit commercial”. the argument was over and i finally had my real fun.

since then i am giving my e-types to projects exclusively if i like them — and a worldwide warrantee on a piece of artwork is offered, what’s still unique: if they get dirty you can send them to my place and you’ll get a new item shipped for free. i was finally proud when the work was used for the int. aids awareness day by the german aids-foundation in 2007.
